Day 3 Brest to Cameret

We dined well in a Marina restaurant in Brest last night. We then found a local sailors bar who served their local version of Calvados, (apple brandy) which was a lovely way to end the day.

First time in years that we had to find one of these!
And get one of these

So the clock starts, limiting us to stay in Shengen countries for 90 in 180 days. A sad feeling when I consider what we have lost with Brexit.

On the way back from the Customs House though we found an Aladdin’s cave of fine produce.

The biggest selection of Rum I’ve ever seen. From all over the world.
We’ll try this one😋

We hoisted the ARC flag in Brest, so that if other boats travelling south are also doing the Ark, we can get together. I also fly the Ocean Cruising Club flag and cruising Association flag for the same reason. within minutes of the ARC flag being hoisted, we were approached by a young chap who asked whether or not we were looking for extra crew!

After some boat tidying and a fruitless trip to the shops for our outstanding galley items we headed over to Cameret Sur Mer, a 10 mile motor in light winds to a delightful French coastal town.

It’s fishing days may be past.

We had a wonderful meal of moule frite, apart from Andy who doesn’t like any shellfish. Perhaps it was a bit unfair to choose the Moulery restaurant, but he did find a burger!

Tomorrow we head off to Concarnau. Probably a 12 hour sail. We have northerly winds of 15 to 20 knots, which means that we will be pushed, and we can try out our new sail, called a Bluewater runner. Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum – no good sailing vessel should be without. Traditionally sailors were given a daily tot of rum when the beer ran out instead of water (as that was unsafe!). Not sure these practices hold up today, but enjoy x
